Gooseberries (1898)
(5/10)
I came to think that it would be right to do everything utilizing my dream. I wonder if happiness comes when the goal that I want to achieve, or whether the process of achieving that goal should be happy. In this story, Nikolai only wanted to pursue goals, and even if the process is unfortunate, the feeling of happiness is expressed very greatly when the goal is achieved.
I am learning positive psychology, and one of the theories I learned there is the Broaden-and-Build Theory. According to this theory, even if there is pain, if you feel positive emotions in the process, you tend to overcome negative emotions and challenge them again. In that challenge, even if hardships and trials come, positive emotion can overcome them again, and overall, it is said to form an upward graph. Nikolai's actions value results over processes, so he won't feel the happiness that comes from this process, and eventually, he will only reach his goal and achieve nothing more than that.
